This past weekend, we had a number of “firsts”. There was our first outdoor event, our first 3-day festival, and our first experience with WIND!
The outdoor event was a lot of fun. We saw so many DOGS! Being animal lovers, it was a thrill to see dogs of every age, shape and size. Two booths away, a vendor had a 4-month-old labradoodle named Ginger. She was a sweetheart! There were huskies, doxies, Yorkies, Shitsu's, a Doberman, an Airedale, a Boxer, and so many mixed breeds it would make your head spin. So much fun!
The festival was the Wakarusa Maple Syrup Festival in Wakarusa Indiana. There were food vendors, amusement rides, and so many craft stalls. We were across the street from the pavilion that held various events and concerts over the weekend. We were also situated right on the parade route, so we had front row seats for the parade! We were there more than 30 hours over 3 days. It was both rewarding and exhausting.
The WIND! Oh, my goodness! Not only did we have the unpredictable Midwest Spring weather, but the orientation, size and dimensions of the downtown buildings created a wind tunnel. The Midwest weather had 20 MPH sustained winds with gusts up to 35 MPH, plus the wind tunnel effect, and it was the perfect storm for anxiety! Even with sandbags and cinder blocks, there were times I thought the wind was going to carry us away.
We survived, and ended up having an excellent show. We sold out of several scents, and our stock was seriously depleted. Now we will be pouring candles like maniacs to get ready for our next show in 5 days! If you are in the Northern Indiana area, look for us at Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake Indiana on May 4.
